“ During my summer Fridays off, my biggest challenge was making it to Porky's for a sandwich before they got snapped up by all those pork-loving Oakland people. You see, the cart is only operational between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. First time I didn't get there until after 1 p.m. and they were already out of sandwiches of the pig variety. The guy at the cart convinced me that the chicken salad sandwich was the way to go. A cart called Porky's and I'm getting a chicken salad sandwich? It just didn't seem right. I relented and walked away with chicken sammie in one hand and a cup of peach lavender lemonade in the other. The cart guy was right, the chicken was good. Chock full of chicken, celery, grapes, peanuts and dijon, served on crusty bread. Second attempt was also to no avail. I ended up walking away with only a cookie. I really need to get my timing down right. At this point, I'm going to need to take a day off from work and be there waiting for my pork sandwich right at 11 a.m. To be continued. ”
“ What a great sandwich! I love it when you eat pork and it actually tastes like pork. The fennel, radish slaw is crunchy and just adds an awesome element to the crusty Acme ciabatta bread and the moist pork. The lemon zest is a nice touch as well. A bit pricey at $9 but well worth it. ”
“ It was a surprisingly good sandwich. The pork meat was very juicy and tender. I expected the sandwich to be made when ordered, but it was pre-made already. No substitution if you want any. Overall a good sandwich. Considering it's right next to Bake Sale Betty, it's a hard decision to choose from. Do I want fried chicken or just a porky sandwich? ”
“ Daniel Patterson's sandwich cart outside of Plum with one sandwich and one sandwich only. Porchetta ($9)! They also have a dessert & drink for $2 each or go "All Together" for $12 (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a5GcD-TIRU25uE7CL9TF2A?select=y_AlT-nfhkAYakdb0HFkew). The desserts & drinks change. I got there as they were setting up and they hadn't updated the drink to Ginger Lemonade. The pork is slow roasted for 14 hours each night and has both pork loin & pork belly. Generous portion of tender meat joined some shaved fennel and radish, arugula, and aioli on a Acme ciabatta roll. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/a5GcD-TIRU25uE7CL9TF2A?select=XAohdfwm7FoYB3tcgRYZyQ). The meat, while tender, was a bit bland if you pull out a chunk and eat it by itself. The pork belly has a soft gelatinous texture that all might not enjoy (I saw a woman return a sandwich with one or two bites out of it for a refund stating the pork belly was the reason.). The aioli is *really* garlicy. Everything works together to make a delicious sandwich. I was told that some days they have crispy pork skin ala Roli Roti, but alas, today was not the day. This is also not a hot sandwich like the aforementioned Roli Roti, in case that matters in your Pochetta hunting. The chocolate chip & oat cookie was soft and very good. I don't know I'd pay $2 for one, but was better value if you're getting the combo. ”
“ This is one helluva SANDWICH! I biked down from Berkeley just to try one. Coasting past Luka's and other neighborhood landmarks, I had no trouble spotting the pork cart right there on the street. It was directly in front of Plum, if that means anything to you, but I'd never been to Plum for a meal, so I was delighted that the cart was so easy to see. Getting across Broadway was a tad of a challenge -- I think that I had to walk along 7 different pedestrian crosswalks in order to get to where I was going. I grabbed a sandwich and asked for something to drink; the something turned out to be a rhubarb lemonade, which was delicious. The pork man asked me if I wanted a cookie. I declined, but might well have sprung for one if I had realized it was only an extra dollar. It's probably better for me that I didn't. (It would have been hard to bike back with that little extra under my belt.) I sat out in the little square (Franklin Square, I think) in front of the Punchdown Natural Wine Bar and bit into my sandwich. It really was a work of art. The sandwich has been described in http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/sf/3781/Daniel_Pattersons_secret_lunch_cart.htm and also in Andrew C's review. I thought that the combination of lean pork loin and pork belly was completely inspired. I filled up my pork quota for the day, and possibly for the rest of the week, but I liked my lunch and wouldn't hesitate to bike here again. I did poke my head into Plum, which had at least one empty table at 1PM. The place looks great, as I'm sure you already knew. The lunch menu struck me as interesting and not laughably expensive. Yet another place that I have to try. ”
“ If you dont have time to hit Plum for dinner, grab a sandwich at Daniel Patterson's Porky's sandwich cart. Holy pig, the porchetta sandwich featuring Marin Sun Farms swine goodness is excellent. 4.3 stars ”
